Lanae Van Gerpen was chosen as the recipient of the National Girls & Women in Sports Award.

Cooper Michael Aas, son of Maggie Einrem and Corey Aas of Watertown was born February 3. Proud grandparents are: Dennis and Renee Aas of Watertown and Mike and Lisa Einrem of Avon.

Andy and Irene Eben celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary at First Baptist Church with friends and family.

The seventh grade class traveled to Pierre as part of their government class.

The community woke to a frosty, icy and snowy day Sunday.

Mudder Family Angus has been recognized nationally by the American Angus Association for having one registered Angus cow included in the Association’s 2011 Pathfinder Report.

Mrs. Erma Powers was named Legionette of the Year at Avon.

Mr. and Mrs. Kenny Crouse returned from a ten day trip to Phoenix.

Mr. and Mrs. Keith Janssen are the proud parents of a baby girl, Stephanie Marie.

Mr. and Mrs. Ivan Bierema have a new son, Brooks Dean.

The Avon Lioness met at the home of Shirley Hofer. Mary Bonin and Shirley had the program. Holly Pier, Virgina Becker and Nanette Thompson played some of Bach’s music.

Avon’s surprisingPirates pulled the upset of the season beating the 3rd ranked Tripp Wildcats 44-43. Fine defensive play was the key. Jon Bertus put a basket in to put Avon ahead with just two seconds left.

The Northvue Cafe owned by Ben Hall was sold to Tiny Williams.

A son, Bradley Allen, was born to Mr. and Mrs. Otto Poppe on Friday.

Avon rated Superior in six events at the Vermillion Music Contest. The boys quartet of Jim Bonin, Marlin Bitterman, Jeff Pier and Ken Juell, the Brass ensemble and vocal soloists, Janice Voigt, Jim Bonin, Marlin Bitterman and a trombone solo by Juell.

Thrumbo School has two new pupils, Leona and Leora Hawkey in the first and fourth grades.

Mr. and Mrs. John Tipping and James left Tuesday for Deadwood where they will make their home. Art Eggers trucked their household goods.

Mrs. Rose Hebner has returned from Rapid City to make her home here.

A nine pound baby boy arrived at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Ed Vilhauer.

The Fred Muller family are moving to Charles Mix County.

The youngest child of Mr. and Mrs. Joe Weddell has been very ill with pneumonia.

The Delicatessen will keep a fresh supply of ice cream and sherbet. Short orders served at all hours.

Many of the schools are having box socials to purchase needed school supplies.

Invitations are out announcing the marriage of Golda Berry and Charles South.

The Andrus Mercantile Co. is selling out its stock of goods.
