The first major snow storm ripped through the area dumping over a foot of heavy, wet snow.

1991 - 30 Years Ago

Rosalee Sternhagen, Avon’s fifth grade teacher was nominated for KDLT “Teacher who make a difference” this month.

Funeral services were held for Bernardena Gramkow, Rev. Charles R. Kruse, Victor Newman, Sr., and Pearl Hooker this week.

Mrs. M.H. Hauge departed for Lindsay, Nebraska for a two week visit with her parents.

Rev. C.B. Jones will preach in the Opera House Sunday.

Dell Rupert returned last Monday from Sioux City with is bride and a number of people turned out and treated the happy couple to a serenade.

Last Tuesday morning Dr. Hollingsworth came up town wearing a big smile and he began buying cigars as a young doctor has taken up his abode at the Hollingsworth home and will likely stay permanent, it’s a boy and all are doing well.

1971 - 50 Years Ago

Mr. and Mrs. David Brandt and family and Dave Eggers were Sunday guests in the Allen Pudwill home in honor of Mr. Pudwill’s birthday.

Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Lauer attended the 50th wedding anniversary of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Haag at Delmont.

An auction sale will be held at the farm home of the late Jerry Odens, six miles south of the Avon Substation.

Harold Oorlog, local manager of Northern Propane Gas Co., was elected chairman for the 1971 season by the Avon Chamber of Commerce, Vice-President is Keith Duermier, owner-operator of the Cashway Lumber Company in Avon, Secretary is Roger Aman, local Bison State Telephone Company representative, and Treasurer is Bill Pier, of the Community Bank.

Mr. and Mrs. Sam Work of Croswell, Michigan are happy to announce the engagement of their daughter, Susan Louse, to James L. Winckler, son of Mr. and Mrs. Edwin Winckler of Avon.
