2000 – 20 Years Ago

Avon Lady Pirates return eight letter winners from last year.

Santa Claus made his first appearance this past Saturday night as he wandered the streets in Avon before the Chamber of Commerce’s 2nd Annual Christmas Lighting Ceremony.

The Chamber of Commerce week one winners of the Christmas Lighting Picks were Wayne and Linda Pfeifer, Greg and Marsha Hubner and Mrs. Mike Berndt.

Services were held for Pearl Jerke at St. John Lutheran Church and for Dewey Olson at First Baptist Church.

The first grade class was selected as class of the month. They have 20 students in their class.

A 50th birthday open house was held for Robert Gramkow on December 3rd.

The children of LeRoy and Mary Brandt hosted a card shower in honor of their parents' 40th wedding anniversary, November 25th.

1990 - 30 Years Ago

Clayton Fillaus, Avon Postmaster for the past 30 years, was honored with an open house in honor of his retirement.

Lydia Fathke was honored for her 96th birthday at Avon Senior Citizens Center.

Sgt. George Mudder was transferred to Fulda, Germany, located 90 miles north of Frankfort.

Cub Scout Pack 68 collected nearly 600 pounds of canned and other food items and paper products in the national “Scouting for Food” drive.

Temperatures were setting a record with highs into the 70’s.

1970 – 50 Years Ago

Rev. Calvin Siemsen, pastor of Trinity Presbyterian Church since 1963, passed away November 30.

The Chicago Milwaukeen & St. Paul Railroad has made application to eliminate rail service, buildings and agent room from the Tyndall-Avon combined agency.
