LOCAL COUPLES PURCHASE AVON LOCKER, SOUTHSIDE MEATS LLC OPENING MAY 17TH
After 29 years, Dave and Sandy Brandt have decided to sell the Avon Locker to two young couples, Devin and Jill Tolsma, and Logan Powers and Alyson Stahl. New ownership will take over effective May 17th. Be sure to show your support to the new owners at Southside Meats LLC, as they begin this new endeavor.
The Brandts purchased the Avon Locker in 1991 and opened September 15, 1992 after some updating and renovations. They are eager to slow down a bit, catch up on some home projects and plan to enjoy some visits to their children and grandchildren in Pierre and also in Texas.
Devin and Jill Tolsma were both born and raised in the Avon community. Devin is a 2015 graduate and Jill a 2017 graduate from Mitchell Technical Institute. Devin graduated with a degree in Ag Tech and Jill earned a degree in Business. The two have been married for two years. Devin is passionate about agriculture and will be a full time butcher at the locker. Jill will be utilizing her business degree and is eager to interact with everyone.
Logan Powers was also born and raised in Avon and his fiancee Alyson Stahl was raised in Mount Vernon. Logan graduated high school in 2013 and pursued a degree in Ag Tech at Mitchell Technical Institute. Alyson is a 2016 graduate of Mount Vernon and is currently taking classes at Ihanktonwan Community College to become an elementary teacher. Logan and Alyson are planning an August 7th wedding. Logan has been raised around agriculture and couldn't imagine a career that doesn't revolve around it. You will find him butchering at the shop part-time and Alyson will be in during the summer months as she works at the Avon Public School as a paraprofessional.
Southside Meats LLC is looking forward to this new adventure and appreciate all of the support they have received thus far.
They have been working closely with Dave and Sandy and the crew to learn the day to day operations in order to make this a smooth transaction and keep animals flowing in and meat going out. They are going to remain a licensed custom-exempt facility processing beef, hogs and sheep, and will continue to make the homemade products such as wieners, bologna, jerky, liver sausage and much more that you have all come to know and love.
Be sure and call the locker to check available dates and book your animals. They are very excited about this new adventure and are looking forward to working with you all. If you have any questions, please give them a call at (605) 286-3427.
