South Dakota State Library has fun new activities that will launch on January 1 to continue the Americas250th SD Reading Adventure. Local librarians across the state have been asked to share with our patrons.
1. Interview an Elder Relative or Community Member Interview an older relative or community member about their experiences growing up and how American or state history has shaped their life.

2. Explore Indigenous Cultures of SD Participants will research the Lakota, Dakota, or Nakota Sioux nations and write or record a reflection on what they learned, focusing on history and cultural contributions to the state. a. Visit the Tribes of South Dakota website b. choose one or more tribes from the menu and click on the official Tribal Website link to learn more about tribal history, governance, and other items c. Post and share to socials and tag #SDRead250 or SD State Library Facebook.
3. Attend a History-Related Event
Participants earn badges by attending a history-related event such as a lecture, festival, or reenactment and sharing what they learned from the experience. a. Attend four events to earn full credit b. Events can include online events hosted by local community or statewide events. Check the SD America’s 250 website for list of events.
