With the start of the new school the library is looking to develop programs which encourage reading at all ages. On the state level the South Dakota Library Association has a committee that nominates books for children in the following age ranges ; grades PreK-1 for Prairie Bud, grades 2-3 for Prairie Bloom, and grades 4-5 for Prairie Pasque. The library has invested in these 12 books for each age range and is currently developing an incentive program for those students who participate.

We haven’t forgotten about our pre-teen and teenage readers. South Dakota Teen Choice is similar to the program for the younger readers where readers complete a book and rate it on a scale of 1-5 with 5 being the best. These books may be found on Libby which makes it easy for teens to read on their electronic devices. An Incentive program is in the work for this age group as well.

“Reading for the Ages” will be our incentive program of reading for those younger and older adults who need a little “push” to get back into reading. A Bingo card listing categories of interest will be available soon. Watch for more info to be shared.
