September is National Library Card month. Do you have a library card? What are the advantages of having a library card from the Lake Andes Public Library? Someone who visits the library and or has a library card is referred to as a “patron”. Patrons are eligible for a free library card if they live in Lake Andes and can show proof of a city water bill. A free library card is also given to parents/guardians of students who attend Andes Central. Students who attend Andes Central may also apply for their own library card. Patrons who don’t meet these two qualifications pay a one time fee of $10. Patrons with a library card can check out up to 3 books or magazines for a two week period, or check out 4 DVD’s for a 1 week period. Check out of free passes to the state parks in South Dakota is also a privilege of being a patron with a library card. The Lake Andes Library is also a member of the South Dakota Digital Consortium, by downloading the Libby app which allows you with your library card to check out e-books, or audio books at no cost to you.

As you can see having a library card at the Lake Andes Public Library brings a number of opportunities for you, so come on in or email us at library@hcinet.net and we will get you started with a library card.
