As I stated in last week's column, this week I will share the particulars of the second CARES grant received by the Lake Andes Carnegie Public Library. The South Dakota Humanities Council awarded $9,600.00 to the library as part of the $400,000 grants awarded to cultural organizations struggling to maintain operations during the corona-virus pandemic. The grants funded by the National Endowment for the Humanities and administered by SDHC provided unrestricted operating support, humanities program support, or both to qualifying organizations impacted by COVID-19.

Funds will be used to update three public computers and one office computer, complete the purchase of an on-line cataloging system, purchase of a printer for public use, benches to be placed outdoors for our patrons using the free WiFi, protective barriers for staff at the circulation desk, masks for patrons, cleaning supplies used during the pandemic, and lastly funds to contract with performers to provide entertainment and educational experiences for our patrons.

The library is very appreciative to the SD Humanities Council for the support of the Lake Andes Library.
