Library news

Sorry for the absence from writing the library news. With the closure of the library caused by my illness and then the pandemic causing libraries across South Dakota and the U.S an article for the newspaper seemed pointless. I have been reading hundreds of posts on Facebook from librarians across South Dakota and the U.S. and I have come to the conclusion that even though our doors are closed there are things we can do for our patrons.

We continue to provide WiFi 24/7. WiFi can be obtained outside the building within about 500 feet of the library. This means you can pull up to the library in your car and use the WiFi. If you need the username and password please email the library at lalibrary@hcinet.net for that information.

We also are providing Overdrive during this time. With this service you may download, books, magazines, videos and children’s books. You do need the website and a cardholder number in order to log into the site. There is no charge for this service. You do need internet to download, but once downloaded you can use materials without being connected to the internet. Again contact me at the email address above for your username and cardholder number.

April 20-25 is National Library Week. For each item that you return to the library this week, by placing in the large mailbox (Locked side) your name will be entered into a drawing on April 25th.

Remember to complete your Census 2020. Again, WiFi internet is available from outside the library. Completing the census helps our communities when applying for funding for infrastructure, schools and libraries.

Any questions about services can be directed to lalibrary@hcinet.net
