I would like to continue reviewing more of the recent acquisitions at the library which are available for check out.
“Red Cloud, Oglala Legend” This selection is part of the South Dakota Biography Series. The author John D. McDermott states, Red Cloud was a celebrated warrior who led his people to victory on the battlefield. He was also a skilled diplomat who transitioned the Oglala Sioux to reservation life. In this book Red Cloud’s early years are examined along with his rise to prominence, and his struggle to protect his people from cultural domination.
“Born Criminal, Matilda Joslyn Gage, Radical Suffragist” printed by the South Dakota Historical Society Press is the story of Matilda Gage. Ms Gage stated that “All the cirimes which I was not guilty of rushed through my mind. I failed to remember that I was a born criminal – a woman. She joined together with Susan B. Anthony and Elizabeth Cady Stanton in founding the National Woman Suffrage Association in 1869. She followed her 3 grown children to Dakota territory and took the suffrage cause west, traveling from town to town promoting her ideals. This read will inform you on the details of Matilda’s life and recounts her contributions to the woman suffrage movement.
