LIBRARY ANNOUNCES SUMMER READING PROGRAM WINNERS
Avon Public Library appreciates everyone who helped make our "Are You A Farm Safety Hero?" 2023 Summer Reading Program the best ever:
• Stephanie Miller-Davis Foundation ($1,500 grant)
• South Dakota Farmers Union-Tom Borkowski and Rocky Forman (Farm Safety Demonstration)
• Wagner Bomgaars and Manager Julia Sassaman (Bomgaars gift card donations)
• Tyndall Bargain Shoppe (continued financial support)
• Avon Farmers Pride Cooperative (drinking water)
• City of Avon and Avon City Council and Avon Chamber of Commerce (help with logistics)
• Tolsma's Cove (movie night host)
• Avon Public Library Board of Directors (volunteers extraordinaire)
Our top readers in each of four categories received $60 gift cards. The winners were: Pirate Prep Childcare (Children ages 0-7), Trent Uchytil (Junior Adult ages 8-11), Charli Paulsen (Young Adult ages 12-18), and Stacy Paulsen (Adult-over 19).
Competition was fierce this year, with 98 participants and winners just 1-3 books ahead of other readers. A total of 1,862 books were read: 34 children (ages 0-7) read/listened to 850 books, 28 children (ages 8-11) read 642 books, 13 young adults (ages 12-18) read 125 books, and 23 adults (aged 19 and over) read 245 books. Best Young Authors Book on Farm Safety was won by Brynn Baade. A copy of her book was sent to the South Dakota Farmers Union. Best Young Authors Books On Other Topics went to Trent and Grace Uchytil. Best Farm Safety poster was drawn by Abigail and Gideon Den Herder.
