LHS ORIOLE ORAL INTERP INVITE
On Tuesday afternoon Oct. 25, the Wagner Oral Interp squad traveled to Lennox to take part in the LHS Oriole Oral Interp Invite. All participants earned awards that equivalent to 1st - Superior +, 2nd - Superior, 3rd - Excellent +, and 4th - Excellent. Jackson Rolston gave his humor piece Thank You for Texting and received an Excellent + for his performance, what judges mentioned was 'intriguing' and full of 'good physical comedy.' Jackson also performed a duet with Presley Slaba, scoring another Excellent + in their 'interesting twist on a classic radio piece' of Abbott & Costello. Presley also brought home a Superior award for her storytelling piece Unbroken that is a 'true inspiration.'
Jessica Barnett brought home 2 Excellent + awards for her serious piece and her storytelling piece. Her serious piece, titled My Mother's Touch, is an eerie story of a neglected child who will do anything to be able to touch her mother. A piece that ends in a murder and a child who can finally feel loved has audience members until the very end. Jessica's storytelling piece of Hands of my Father tells the beautiful story of a young boy who grows up being the voice of his deaf parents.
Jenny Barnett brought home an Excellent + award for her serious piece, Multiple Personality Murder. Judges have noted that Jenny does a 'good job of creating and maintaining a mood' throughout the piece of a woman who has endured trauma that ends in the murder of her abuser. Jenny also was honored with the top award, a Superior + in her poetry piece To This Day. This poem, shows the emotional journey of the speaker as he goes through life, overcoming bullying and other obstacles.
On Monday, November 7th, all are invited to the Wagner Community School at 6pm to see all of our performances before we head to Regions!
