Letter to the Editor

Recently I have read numerous editorials with negative messages. I thought it might be uplifting to submit one in an opposite direction.

The basic ideology of our American form of government is the right to have your own opinion if you are a legal citizen of this country. This right to freedom of speech only allows us to speak or protest as long as we do not harm our fellow citizens or just as importantly our country.

The advent of social media has allowed so many false narratives to be portrayed without accountability. We are in the beginning of a new administration and it is our responsibility to allow them to work toward the goals they have set without attacking every action that is taken.

America has the opportunity to change. We can become world leaders, but America cannot change until the hearts of Americans change. Our elected leaders cannot pave a successful path for our country without our support. It is the responsibility of our citizens to do their part in the future of America.

This is where patriotism comes into play. It is harmful for citizens, especially people who hold a prominent position in our society to 'take a knee' when our anthem is played. This represents a poor image to those whol ook up to these people. We absolutely cannot allow any person to desecrate our flag. I believe that there should be monetary fines and required community service for these violations.

During Ronald Reagans administration, I observed that as he lead with traditional values, the country followed. We need the traditional values of Love of God. Love of Family, and Love of Country. America cannot be great until the Power of Love is greater than Love of Power.

I challenge all my fellow Americans to display your patriotism. Fly Your Flag, Stand With Reverence when our national anthem is played. Patriotism is contragious. Lets hope we all catch a powerful case of it. If you believe as such, pray for our country and for our leaders. As John Kennedy said 'Ask noy what your Country can do for you, ask what You can do for your country.'
