LEGION VS MVPCS

By
Coach Matt Slaba

On Friday, July 12, Wagner’s Post 11 Legion team played host for the third time of the week and it did turn out to be the charm as the bats finally awakened and we were able to defeat Mt. Vernon- Plankinton-Corsica-Stickney by a score of 12-2.

Wagner pounded out 12 hits, drew six walks, and used two hit batters to compile their 12 runs. Three walks, five hits, and a hit batsman helped Wagner to plate eight runs in the first inning. Joey Cournoyer had the big knock as he laced a bases loaded double into the left-centerfield gap, scoring all three runners.

We would go on to score two runs in the 2nd, one in the 3rd, and one more in the fifth to end the game via the mercy rule.

Christian Doom had a big night going 4 for 4 at the plate collecting four RBI and scoring one run. Joey Cournoyer, who got the win on the mound, helped himself by going 3 for 3 with three RBI and a run scored. Ted Slaba and Frank Soukup each had two hits and a run scored with Soukup collecting an RBI. Landon Mudder had one single and two RBI. Carter Cournoyer and Matt Link scored three and two runs, respectively.

On the mound, Joey Cournoyer earned the win by going four innings. He gave up one earned run on one hit while walking three and striking out seven. Brady Cournoyer came on to pitch the last frame giving up one unearned run on one hit while striking out one.

The Legion season is winding down. We will play in Chamberlain on Tuesday the 16th and host Winner on Friday the 19th. Region play will begin on Tuesday, July 23, in Corsica with Wagner facing off against Scotland-Menno-Freeman at 4:30.
