LEGION AT CHAMBERLAIN

By
Coach Matt Slaba

On Tuesday, July 16, Wagner’s Post 11 Legion team traveled to Chamberlain and lost an extra inning contest by a score of 6-5.

Matt Link started on the mound for Wagner. Matt would make it 6.2 innings giving up five earned runs on four walks and only two hits while striking out 12 Chamberlain batters.

Wagner was leading 5-3 heading into the bottom of the 7th but a hit by pitch and a walk put the tying run on base. And as what seems to usually happen, those free runners came back to haunt us as the next batter doubled with two outs to plate both runs and send the game to an extra frame.

Wagner went down 1-2-3 in the 8th inning. Chamberlain loaded the bases on an error and two walks before a ball hit into shallow centerfield ended up falling and the winning run scored despite a valiant effort by Tyler Tjeerdsma.

Frank Soukup was the unfortunate pitcher of record as he gave up one unearned run on two hits and two walks while striking out one.

Link and Ted Slaba each colthe lected two hits for Wagner with Slaba driving in two and Link, one. Link would also score three times. Christian Doom had a single and an RBI. Soukup, Tjeerdsma, and Joey and Carter Cournoyer each had one hit on the night and Landon Mudder scored two runs.

These boys will next be in action on Tuesday, July 23, at 4:30 as they take on Scotland-Menno- Freeman in first round of district play in Corsica.
