LEGION BASEBALL VS PARKSTON

By
Coach Matt Slaba

On Tuesday, June 11, Wagner’s American Legion Post 11 team hosted Parkston’s Post 194. Too many Ks at the plate and errors in the field proved to be Wagner’s undoing as they would fall to the visitors by a 9-5 score.

Matt Link was the starting pitcher and he went 5+ innings. He gave up six runs, five earned, on seven hits while walking four, hitting one, and striking out five. Joey Cournoyer came on to get the final six outs. He allowed three runs, all of which were unearned, on four hits. He did not walk a batter and struck out three.

At the plate Wagner was led by Joey and Carter Cournoyer. They each had two hits, a run scored, and an RBI. Link, Hunter Loeffler, and Tyler Tjeerdsma all singled for Wagner, with Loeffler and Tjeerdsma each driving in a run. Frank Soukup drew a pair of walks and score one run.

Our big downfall of the night was that we were not able to put the ball in play nearly enough. Parkston would record 17 of their 21 outs via the strikeout. To be fair, they do have some solid pitching and on this night we faced Luke Bormann and Carter Sommer, but we need to figure out a way to get the bat on the ball more consistently.
