The Ihanktonwan Learning Camp will be returning to the Marty Community Center on Monday July 28. A group of volunteers from Maryland and Pennsylvania will be offering fun and educational activities for children who have finished K through 5th grade. The Learning Camp is completely FREE!! Camp will start at 11 AM and end at 4 PM, Monday through Thursday the week of July 28. This is the same week that the Boys and Girls Club in Marty will be closed, so if your kids are looking for something to do this is the place! In addition to learning activities, arts and crafts and games, there will be prizes and gifts daily and everyone will receive a hot lunch, a snack and a bagged meal to take home. All are welcome to join in the fun.
The learning camp has been made possible since 2010 through the long-standing partnership between the local Cedar and Greenwood Presbyterian Churches and churches from the Baltimore, MD Presbytery. Returning camp leaders, Reverend Alison Peters and Claudia Scarborough, say “A special thanks go to Pete Kazena, Geraldine Provost (camp director), Reverend Jerry Zephier, Mike Horned Eagle, Mary Antelope, and many others who make this camp possible. We also hold in our hearts the memories of Natalie Medicine Bear, Karen White Horse and Robert Cournoyer who were so important in supporting this camp over the years.”
Registration will be on site at the Marty Community Center. We require the name, age, address, and grade completed for all campers plus a telephone number (work, cell or home) of a responsible parent or guardian. If other family members will be attending the camp or alternate caregivers will be picking up children, please let us know at registration. If you wish to register early or have questions about the camp, please email or text Robin Bissell at rbissell444@gmail.com or 240-444-4219.
