The Large Group Contest was held in Vermillion on Wednesday, April 5. The Band was the first to perform, and ultimately scored a two which is second best overall. The Avon SA group was the next to sing at 12:30 after they had lunch. They scored a one which is the highest score given. Later, the Avon mixed

Autumn Schulz, Music Teacher and Choir Director commented that, “We had yet another successful year bringing our students to Large Group Contest in Vermillion. The students have put in a lot of work and effort to make sure we were prepared to deliver a meaningful and musical performance for the three judges. I believe we did just that! Afterwards, a USD student approached us and said he did not expect to hear our small school sound that solid. A band director from a big school district expressed that our final selection made her cry and she was impressed with just how much emotion we were able to exude from the entire choir.

I think that says enough in itself! Super proud of the dedication in my choirs. I may have high expectations, but there is a reason behind that. I love surprising bigger districts with what we are capable of and can accomplish year after year!” Mataya Laarsgard, Avon Band Teacher and Director commented, “The high school band performed two selections yesterday at contest and were complimented by all three judges stating how full we sounded as a band even with how small we are. Our hard work paid off and we received very high scores from the judges.
