LAKE ANDES COMMUNITY COMES TOGETHER FOR OUTDOOR CHRISTMAS CELEBRATION

As dusk settled over town on December 21, neighbors followed the glow of a bonfire to the empty lot south of Lake Andes Lumber Co., where a simple invitation turned into a memorable winter gathering.

Wrapped in coats and scarves, families formed a loose circle as a Christmas story from the Bible was read aloud. For the children, the night held extra magic with pony and donkey rides, hot chocolate, and cookies. As evening deepened, the live nativity came to life. Silhouetted figures— Mary and Joseph, shepherds, sheep, and a donkey—stood beneath a simple stable, offering a quiet, reverent scene that drew people close. Children lined up for photos, and for a few moments, time seemed to slow.

It wasn’t flashy or loud, just a small-town Christmas done right. Firelight, song, and story, shared beneath a clear December sky, brought neighbors together in a simple reminder of what the season is about. As families lingered to talk and laugh, the glow from the bonfire and the nativity lights carried the spirit of Christmas well into the evening. Courtesy Photos
