The Wagner volleyball team traveled to Tyndall on Saturday, October 21st to participate in the SESD Conference tournament. Wagner first competed against Gregory and defeated them with scores of 25-17 and 25-11. Their second opponent was Parkston and it was a battle but came up short with scores of 20-25, 25-23, and 28-30. Winner was the last team they faced in pool play and they picked up the win with scores of 25-17 and 25-14. With a 2-1 record from pool play that put them into the 3rd/4th place match against Mount Vernon/ Plankinton and they earned 3rd place with scores of 20-25, 25-23, and 25-15.
Outside hitters Ashlyn Koupal and Kya Kjeldgaard led the attack with 31 and 30 kills on the day. Shona Kocer added 23 kill and Ravyn Medricky had 17. Setter Macy Koupal accumulated 97 assists in the 4 matches. Behind the service line Aubrey Medricky tallied 31 points/7 aces, Kjeldgaard earned 26 points/4 aces, M. Koupal added 27 points/8 aces, A. Koupal had 24 points/5 aces, and Madi Knebel had 20 points/5 aces in the tournament. In the backcourt A. Koupal scrambled for 47 digs, Knebel scrapped for 45, Kjeldgaard picked up 33 and Braxton Nedved had 21. Kocer put up 11 blocks at the net, R. Medricky added 5, while A. Medricky and Kjeldgaard each had 4.
A huge Congratulations to senior setter Macy Koupal for reaching her 3,000-career assist during the Parkston match. This is a great accomplishment, and we are so proud of you Macy!
Wagner travels to Burke on Monday, October 23rd for their last regular season match.
