LADY RED RAIDERS BRING HOME 4TH PLACE FINISH

The Wagner volleyball team traveled to Rapid City on Wednesday, November 17th to compete in the 40th Annual South Dakota State Volleyball Tournament.

Wagner being seeded #4 in the tournament faced #5 Hill City in the first round of the tourney. The Lady Red Raiders came out ready to play and won the match with scores of 25-18, 25-21, 11-25, and 26-24.

Against the Rangers, Emma Yost led the attack with 18 kills. Shona Kocer threw down 11, Kya Kjeldgaard and Avari Bruguier earned 7 apiece while Shalayne Nagel added 6. Macy Koupal dished out 43 assists in the win. In the back court Wagner had 4 players with double digit digs. Madi Knebel led the way and scrapped for 20 digs, Emma Yost picked up 18, Avari Bruguier added 13, and Shalayne Nagel had 12. Up at the net Wagner also had 4 blockers putting up a wall and earned lots of stops against the Rangers. Leading the blockers were Kocer with 7, Kjeldgaard and Nagel each with 4, Koupal with 3 and Yost with 1.

Wagner then moved on to the semi-finals to face the defending state champion Sioux Falls Christian. The Lady Red Raiders gave it their all and played the Chargers well but came up short with scores of 18-25, 5-25, and 17-25.

At the net Avari Bruguier earned 7 kills, while Emma Yost, Shalayne Nagel, and Shona Kocer all added 2 apiece. Macy Koupal ended the night with 11 assists. Madi Knebel and Bruguier each picked up 10 digs in the match. Kocer added 4 blocks and Nagel had 2.

With the loss the Raiders then went up against Dakota Valley in the 3rd/4th place match. The Lady Red Raiders fell short with scores of 11-25, 17-25, and 26-28 to finish

4th place in the tournament.

Leading the offense were Emma Yost with 10 kills and Shalayne Nagel with 6. Macy Koupal dished out 22 assists to her hitters in the match. Yost led all defenders picking up 18 digs while Madi Knebel added 14, Nagel had 11 and Avari Bruguier had 10. Shona Kocer earned 4 stops and Nagel had 3 of her own in the match.

Wagner ends their season with a record of 28-8. We are already looking forward to next year!
