The Wagner Lady Raiders took to the big stage at the SDHSAA Girls State Wrestling Championships, competing against top talent from across the state.

At 115 pounds, Izzy Myer represented Wagner. She faced Jasmine Maas of Aberdeen Central in the opening round and was defeated by fall. Myer responded in the consolation bracket with a solid 7-4 decision over Sydney Johnson of Bon Homme/Scotland/Avon to keep her tournament hopes alive. Her run came to an end in the next round after a hard-fought match against Kaidynce Hand of Sturgis Brown.

Jaylecia Powers competed at 155 pounds for the Lady Raiders. In her opening-round match, Powers wrestled Amelia Hendrixson of Sioux Falls Lincoln. She bounced back in the consolation round with an impressive 12-3 major decision over Alyssa McCracken of Canton. Powers’ tournament concluded due to injury in the next consolation round against Taylor DeJong of Mitchell.

Though neither wrestler reached the podium, both Lady Raiders competed with determination and represented Wagner with pride on the state stage. Their efffforts mark continued growth for the Wagner girls wrestling program and valuable experience against some of the best competition in South Dakota.
