The Avon Lady Pirates volleyball team hosted the Andes Central/Dakota Christian Thunder on Thursday, September 4, and came away with a clean sweep, 3-0. Brielle Voigt led at the service line with 9 aces, while Kaydence Metzger added 3. At the net, Rilyn Thury dominated with 14 kills, followed by Breanna Hento with 6 and Metzger with 5. Defensively, Jordyn Voigt collected 21 digs and Metzger chipped in 12. Voigt also paced the offense with 22 set assists. With the win, the Lady Pirates improve to 2-3 on the season. The JV squad also claimed victory, winning 25-9 and 25-14.

The Avon Lady Pirates traveled to Parkston on Tuesday, September 2, where they battled through a five-set match before falling 2-3 to the Trojans. Rilyn Thury led the attack with 16 kills and 3 ace serves, while Kaydence Metzger added 14 kills and Bree Vanderlei contributed 8. At the service line, Jordyn Voigt chipped in 2 aces. Defensively, Jordyn and Brielle Voigt each recorded 20 digs, with Thury close behind at 17. At the net, Breanna Hento posted 2 blocks, and Brielle Voigt fueled the offense with an impressive 43 set assists. The loss drops Avon’s record to 1-3 on the season. In underclassmen action, the JV squad swept 25-15, 25-15, while the C team split three sets, 23-20, 21-25, and 2-15.
