The Avon Lady Pirates brought energy and execution to the court on Saturday, September 20, as they competed in the Bon Homme Clash Tournament. Avon started strong with back-to-back wins over Vermillion and Beresford before falling in a hard-fought three-set battle against Parker/Marion to close out the day. The Lady Pirates opened the tournament with a dominant performance against Vermillion, sweeping them in two straight sets. Rilyn Thury was once again the offensive force, tallying 15 kills. Supporting at the net were Bree Vanderlei (4 kills), Kaydence Metzger (2), and one kill each from Abby Gretschmann, Breanna Hento, and Brielle Voigt. Gretschmann also added a block to help shut down Vermillion’s offense. Avon’s defense stood tall with Jordyn Voigt leading the charge at 15 digs, followed by Metzger (12), Lexi Vanderlei (5), Thury (4), and Voigt (4). Brielle Voigt kept the offense flowing smoothly, recording 20 set assists. Momentum continued into the second match as Avon swept Beresford in another two-set victory. Thury led with 16 kills, with strong support from Breanna Hento (4 kills), Metzger (3), and Bree Vanderlei (3). Avon was dangerous from the service line—Jordyn Voigt landed 2 aces, while Thury and Lexi Vanderlei added 1 each. At the net, Hento and Brielle Voigt each recorded a block. Defensively, Avon stayed sharp with Jordyn Voigt (12 digs), Brielle Voigt (10), Metzger (6), Thury (4), and Vanderlei (2). Brielle Voigt added another 22 assists to her tournament tally. In their final match of the day, Avon came up just short to Parker/Marion team, dropping the match in three sets. Thury led with 11 kills, while Metzger (7) and Hento (4) contributed key points. Gretschmann, Voigt, and Vanderlei each added a kill. Avon’s serve game was aggressive—Jordyn Voigt (3 aces), Brielle Voigt (2), and one each from Metzger and Thury. The defense remained solid across the board: Jordyn Voigt led with 15 digs, Metzger and Thury had 11 each, Brielle Voigt added 10, and Lexi Vanderlei (7), Hento (3), and Vanderlei (2) chipped in. Brielle Voigt had 19 set assists, with Thury (2) and Jordyn Voigt (1) also contributing.
