KUHLMAN AND SCHERR, YOUR 2020 LABOR DAY PARADE MARSHALS
On behalf of the Wagner Labor Day Committee and the City of Wagner, we would like to thank Mary Jo Kuhlman for her many years of service to bettering our community. Because of her contributions and unselfishness, it is our honor that she is this year’s Labor Day Parade Marshall.
Mary Jo has been a part of the Wagner Community all of her life. She went away for school one year and then returned back and just never left.
What drove her to stay? The people and the atmosphere, the surroundings. "It’s just my home," she stated.
Mary Jo has been on the Labor Day Committee and the Centennial Committee, which is helping to make our community have events that were very successful. And just helping out people in Wagner.
Something she is especially proud of that most people don't know about is that she cherishes and loves the fact that she was able to meet so many different people and do so many different things, and that she just loves this community and the people in it and that is probably the best thing.
Her favorite thing about Labor Day is seeing all the people from far away that come and visit the community as they wouldn’t miss it, and she wouldn’t either. "I think the Labor Day committee does wonderful things and it’s changed over the years as far as what they have to do compared to what we did. It sometimes can be a thankless job, but I know how much work gets put into it," she added, "Thank you Wagner Labor Day Committee and thank you to the Wagner Community."
On behalf of the Wagner Labor Day Committee and the City of Wagner, we would like to thank Wayne Scherr for his many years of service to bettering our community. Because of his contributions and unselfishness, it is our honor that he is this year’s Labor Day Parade Marshall.
Wayne moved to Wagner in 1985, approximately 35 years ago. They stay because of the people. "We have a lot of friends here, the people are great, it’s an awesome community," he stated.
When asked about something he's done in the community that he's proud of he shared, "I think the biggest thing is the contact and touch that I believe I’ve instilled in some of the kids in school. The wrestlers, the friendship I’ve developed with all of the good people here. But, most of all probably the kids in school, and that’s one of the reasons I did get on the school board also. I spent ten good years trying to help develop a good school system."
During his time as school board president, wrestling coach, etc., he is proud of the kids that he got the opportunity to work with in wrestling and in the classroom. He believes that working with the kids and still staying in touch with all of them is one of the biggest things for him.
Wayne was on the Labor Day Committee about 20 some years ago for three years as chairman, and then the next year was the Centennial celebration when he was asked to be put back on that so he actually got four years in. He shared there used to be more dances during those times though, but the carnival was good as it is now, and every year it just seems like the Labor Day Committee works just as hard as they did at the time. "It’s still a great and fun event for the community," he added, "we hope you enjoy the Celebration! Thank you Erik, and the entire Labor Day Committee!"
