Michael Koupal made a shot as time expired for Wagner to get them past Scotland/Menno Thursday night. Wagner missed a free throw down by one with five seconds left, Ky Arpan grabbed the rebound and took a desperation shot, Koupal put the miss in the hoop at the buzzer for Wagner. The game was close throughout, Wagner led 12-9 after the first period and trailed 27-24 at the half. The Raiders got the lead back and led 42-41 heading into the final frame. The Trappers took a late lead only to see Wagner erase the deficit in the final minute. Ky Arpan led Wagner with 16 points, he also grabbed 8 rebounds. Michael Koupal had a double/double with 14 points and 13 rebounds. Carlos Galindo scored 14 points, had 5 rebounds, 4 assists and 3 steals, Jesse Zephier scored 11 points and had 4 assists, and Leon Fields scored 2 points for Wagner.
The varsity team is now 11-2 and will play in Hanson on Tuesday night.
C Team Wins
The Wagner Boys C Team picked up their sixth win of the year Thursday night against Scotland/Menno. Wagner trailed after the first period 7-9, but the Raiders shot the ball well in the second quarter and took a 20-14 lead into half time. The teams played even after that, Wagner scored 13 second half points to Scotland/ Menno’s 11. Wagner won with a final score of 33-25. Kameron Chrans and Ron Knudsen each scored 8 points, Bailer Lhotak scored 7, Conner Gable scored 4 points, Ryan Gullickson, Ethan Gabel and Alex Reiter each scored 2 points. The C team improves to 6-2 and will play in Hanson on Tuesday night.
JV Boys Defeat Trappers The Wagner JV boys team won a close game against Scotland/Menno Thursday night. The boys led 10-9 after the first period and 19-17 at the half. The game remained close throughout the second half, Colton Zephier scored 11 points in the fourth quarter to lift the Raiders to a win. Colton finished the game with 16 points, Jackson Woods scored 13, Jakhi Tiger and Avery Medicine Bear each scored 6 and Bailer Lhotak scored 4. The JV team is now 9-4 on the season and will play on Tuesday night in Hanson.
