KNIGHTS OF COLUMBUS COUNCIL #2676

By

Our local council #2676 started the summer off with a steak fry on June 4th. There was great attendance and the steaks prepared by Colin Soukup and Ron Mazourek were excellent. Later in the month the Knights held the annual East and West River Field Mass on Sunday, June 30th at 4:00p.m. Father Jim Friedrich conducted the mass which was followed by a great potluck meal and fun games for the families! Some of the games included bean bag races and a water balloon toss which ended with a rather exciting water balloon fight! Everyone in attendance would agree that the kids won over the adults, especially Father Jim who left soaking wet! Special thanks to Don Kocer and Bud Koupal for doing the grilling!

The July meeting mainly consisted of the election of new officers. The positions filled were as follows: Grand Knight-Jamie Soukup, Deputy Grand Knight-Erik Cimpl, Chancellor-Dylan Brunsing, Recorder-Phil Kafka, Financial Secretary-Ron Koupal, Treasurer-Dick Soukup, Lecturer-David Kocer, Advocate-Jeff Stewart, Warden-Colin Soukup, Inside Guard-Scott Van Winkle, Outside Guard- Richard Kokesh and Trustees-Fran Kocer, Cletus Wiechmann and Bud Koupal. Cooks for the July meeting Dylan Brunsing and David Kocer made an excellent BBQ meal for supper!

Most recently was the August meeting which was well attended with around 20 Knights present. Main subjects were planning the first annual Knights Trap Shoot and the gun raffle that is starting in August. The trap shoot is going to be held Sunday, September 8th and looks to be a great event. Details on how to register for this event will be advertised to the public two weeks before the event, watch the local paper for that information. This year we are raffling off a Henry model .17 Golden Boy rifle. Tickets will be sold at various events including the Dante Harvest Festival and the St. Johns Bazaar in September. The cooks for the meal were Joe Soukup and Clayton Rados. It was breakfast for supper which included fried eggs, pancakes and sausage.

Monthly meetings are always the first Tuesday of the month. The September meeting will be Tuesday, September 3rd at 7 p.m., at St. John’s Catholic Church in Wagner. For any other information about the Knights of Columbus or becoming a Knight please contact Grand Knight Jamie Soukup at 605-491-0772 or Jamie.soukup@plantpioneer.com.
