KDKO began giving this award in 2017 to our 3 local basketball teams, the Andes Central/Dakota Christian, Marty Indian and Wagner schools. Unfortunately, in 2020 we did not award a player of the year due to the pandemic.

This year, KDKO was burnt to the ground so we weren’t able to give out our player of the game awards, however KDKO is now back on the air and is ready to return to live remote broadcasting. So, we decided to get back to acknowledging and awarding our youth. Since this year, we would have given these awards to our youth, if it hadn’t been the fire, we decided to award a Player of the Year to our student athletes with the help of the coaches.

The Player of the Year award is based on outstanding performance, sportsmanship and character in the game of basketball.
