Katherine Mararet Swier was born on May 27th 2008 to mother Theresa and father Scott Swier. Her siblings are Sarah, Will, and Molly Swier. When asked what her favorite subject was, she said, “It depends on the day! I like math because I'm either right or wrong and there's no grey area. I like history because it's always entertaining, and I like science because it's hands-on!” Katherine thinks that the hardest part of being a senior is making decisions for the future. In her free time, Katherine likes to go on walks and spend quality time with family. An inspirational quote that Katherine lives by is,” If you can't be kind, be quiet.” Some high school activities Katherine is in are: volleyball, basketball, oral interp., drama, and HOSA. When asked about a memory from AHS that will stick with Kate forever, she told us the following tale: “One day in U.S. history, my junior year, my classmates snuck a ball of tin foil, and a ball of bread out of the lunch room. They then proceeded to throw the balls back and forth across the room while Mrs. Cahoy wasn't looking. Class went on as usual until someone dropped the ball of bread, creating a loud “thud.” We were caught and the entire room erupted into laughter. Mrs. Cahoy even let out a little giggle before turning the ball tin foil and ball of bread into Principle Fathke.” Katherine's proudest moment was earning above a 3.5 GPA all throughout high school. Katherine said that her role model is her mom because,” She's the strongest person I know. She truly exemplifies what it means to show kindness to everyone, live selflessly, and walk a life of faith.” Katherine plans to study nursing at Mount Marty University or South Dakota State University. Some advice Katherine has for underclassmen is to work hard and be kind. Enjoy every moment- it goes by a lot faster than you think. One thing that Katherine would do differently is to be more easy-going, and go with the flow more. When asked what she would miss about AHS, she responded with, “I will miss seeing my friends everyday. I will miss late-night bus rides with my teammates. I will miss the daily interactions with my teachers, coaches, and staff, who I have grown to love and appreciate so much. When I look back at my time at AHS I will remember how special it was to be with the same group of kids from kindergarten, all the way to graduation. To grow up together has truly been something so meaningful. It's an odd feeling to think that in just a few months our time together will come to an end, and we'll go our separate ways.”
