JUSTIN SLABA ONE OF THE SIX NEWEST MEMBERS OF THE DAKOTA WESLEYAN UNIVERSITY ATHLETIC HALL OF FAME

MITCHELL, S.D. – Due to COVID during 2020, the Dakota Wesleyan University athletic department inducted six of its newest members into the Athletic Hall of Fame on 09/25/2021. Those individuals include Raven (Morgan) Ellwein ('00), Robert Stockton ('05), Justin "Bubba" Slaba ('12), Chad Johnson ('03), Matthew Hein ('04) and Dan and Diane DesLauriers (Contributors).

"On behalf of our entire campus and community, we want to congratulate our newest inductees into the DWU Athletic Hall of Fame," Director of Athletics Jon Hart said. "Induction into the DWU Athletic Hall of Fame is our highest honor and this class is another perfect representation of our history, success and values. This is a great opportunity to honor some of the best and brightest athletes, coaches, and contributors who have left a lasting impact on our programs and campus community. This ceremony allows us to express our gratitude for these accomplished individuals who have helped shape the future of athletics at DWU. Their involvement and influence has played a critical role in creating a rich history, and we couldn't be more excited to officially welcome them into this exclusive club. Thank you for your dedication, commitment, and leadership. Expectations for DWU athletics couldn't be any higher thanks to the groundwork you have set for future generations. You are extremely deserving of DWU Athletics highest honor. We applaud each of our honorees and extend our everlasting thanks for all that you have done for Dakota Wesleyan University. Each one of these inductees has made a profound impact on our programs and institution as a whole. We couldn't be more excited to honor and celebrate them this year."

Slaba completed a historic career with the DWU football team after being a four-year player, plus a two-year starter at wide receiver. He was named to the All-GPAC First Team in 2008 and to the All-GPAC Second Team in 2009. He currently stands second for single season receiving yards with 1,046 yards in 2008. He also sits second in program history in career receiving yards after recording 2,881 yards on 206 catches. His 206 career receptions put him third in DWU football history. Slaba also sits second and third in single season receptions with 76 catches in 2008 and 72 receptions in 2009. He was a member of the 2008 Tiger team who finished with seven wins and ranked 23rd in the final NAIA poll. Slaba currently resides in Sioux Falls with his wife Jess. They have one daughter, Haidyn, one son, Skyler, and are expecting another daughter the end of December/beginning of January.
