JAMES 5: 13-16 "Is any amoung you afflicted? Let him pray. Is any merry? Let him sing psalms. Is any sick among you? Let him call for the elders of the church; and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord: And the prayers of the faithful shall save the sick, and the Lord shall raise him up: And if he had committed sins, they shall be forgiven him. Confess your faults one to another, and pray for another, that ye may be healed. The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much."(KJV)
This scripture is saying if a person is in need- let him pray. Most people do everything they can to fix things for themselves before as a last result, pray and ask God for His help. If it's for sickness, pray for healing.
If they don't think their own prayers are sufficient for their need to be met, they should call for the elders of the church and let them pray over him. Sometimes the anointing with oil in the name of the Lord is required. Oil is a symbol of the Holy Spirit.
Then the prayer of Faith by that person and by the elders of the church with the anointing of oil may be sufficient to get the need met.
Whether it be physical or spiritual. If this person has committed sins they shall be forgiven him.
A person should confess his faults one to another, this does not mean openly confessing a sin or sins a person might have participating in, but it does mean that there is some need of prayer, sharing it with others so that they can pray for the situation. Again if it is physical or spiritual or some other need.
We find that the effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much.
Before praying, asking for something that we cannot fix for ourselves, a person should first ask God for forgiveness and mercy for whatever they might have done that would interfere with the prayers they are about to ask Him for. The scripture says the fervent prayer of a righteous man. If a person is living a life that is not pleasing to God, he is not righteous, answered prayers will be hindered for that person is not at that time a righteous person.
Be sure to acknowledge your sins before asking God for His blessings.
A pure heart, soul, and mind will result in answered prayers.
