Pastor/Founder of the Grace Baptist Church, Lake Andes since 1988 M ATTHEW 16:22-33 And straightway Jesus constrained his disciples to get into a ship, and go before him unto the other side, while he sent the multitude away.
And when he had sent the multitude away, he went up into a mountain to pray: and when evening was come, he was there alone.
But the ship was not in the midst of the sea, tossed with waves: for the wind was contrary.
And in the forth watch of the night Jesus went unto them, walking on the water.
And when the disciples saw him walking on the sea, they were troubled, saying, it is a spirit, and they called out for fear.
But straightway Jesus spoke unto them, saying, be of good cheer, it is I, be not afraid.
And Peter answered him and said, Lord if it be true, bid me come unto thee on the water.
And he said come, and when Peter was come down out of the ship, He walked on the water to go to Jesus.
But when he saw the wind boisterous , he was afraid. and beginning to sink, he called, saying, Lord, save me.
And immediately Jesus stretched forth his hand, and caught him, and said unto him, O thou of little faith, wherefore didst thou doubt.
Then them that were in the ship came and worshipped Him, saying, of a truth thou art the Son of God.' (KJV) Unfortunately, we have a lot of Peters in this world today. They know Jesus, at least they know of Jesus--but having a real faith in Him is missing in their life.
The Bible tells us that Jesus is the Son of God, He is to be believed in, even when things just don't seem to be right. We are told that doubting Jesus accomplishes nothing, but real faith in Him accomplishes a lot.
There are too many people who now say they believe in Jesus but when the trials come along--their doubt shows up and they miss out on many blessings.
This doubting comes from their lack of real knowledge of Jesus. They miss out on knowing Him by not attending church regularly, by not reading their Bibles, and by not applying what they heard and read into their life.
You say you love Jesus and believe in Him---then prove it by showing up at church for services when the doors are open, read your Bible, put into practice what you heard at church. Things will get better for you when you do it God's way. You will be faithful and not sink. Praise God every day and watch how He blesses you for doing it.
How strong is your faith?
