Pastor/Founder of the Grace Baptist Church, Lake Andes since 1988 M ATTHEW 8: 23-27 And when he was entered into a ship. his disciples followed him.
And behold, there was a great temptest in the sea, so in so much that the ship was covered with the waves but he was asleep.
And his disciples came to him and awoke him, saying, Lord, save us, we perish.
And he sayeth unto them, why are ye fearful, o ye of little faith, then he arose and rebuked the winds and the sea, and there was a great calm But the men marveled, saying, what manner of man is this, that even the winds and the sea obey him.
He knew that it was not His time to die-so He took a nap.
His disciples feared for their Lifes in unbelief not knowing just what Jesus would do-but they awake Him any way. They were calling on Him to do something. He arose and spoke to the wind and the sea and they listened to his words that He said and there was a great calm.
If we would take the lesson from the Scripture reading and bring it to us today we would find that people today are sinking in their sin. If they would realize that not calling on Jesus to save them, they will like the storm, there sin will overcome them, and they would sink into the bottomless pit of hell.
By realizing the sinful situation thet have found themselves to be-There only future for them is to call on Jesus and His mercy and forgiveness and ask Him to save them. The disciples wanted Him to save them from the raging winds-but sinners must ask Jesus to save them from eternally sinking in sin and sin's punishment in hell.
As Jesus caused the winds and the sea to calm He will also give calmness untyo any and all souls who will call on Him to save them.
Are you sinking?
