The Avon Junior High Volleyball A team participated in the Great Plains Conference tournament on September 9th. The Great Plains Conference is made up of 12 teams including Burke, Tripp-Delmont/Armour, Scotland, Gayville-Volin, Centerville, Alcester-Hudson, Corsica-Stickney, Andes Central/Dakota Christian, Avon, Colome, Freeman Academy/Marion and Marty. The tournament began with pool play. Avon won all three matches during this part of the tournament. Avon then defeated Centerville 2-0 to make it into the championship game. In the championship game Avon faced Burke. Avon won the championship, winning two out of the three sets. The team had a good cheering section of parents and family along with some extra teammates. According to Coach Becky Haenfler, “Our girls played very well and kept improving throughout the day”. She was very impressed by how well the team worked together and if they continue to work hard, she knows that they will be successful. Members of the team are Bree Vanderlei, Kaydence Metzger, Pria Sesler, Irelynn Small, Jeanah Ratzlaff, Brielle Voigt, Raegan Brandt, Emersyn Haenfler, Rowan Brandt and Kensley DeVries. The team is coached by Becky Haenfler and Christena Voigt. Congratulations girls!
