JOHNNY SWATEK PUBLISHED IN THE SIOUXLAND WOMEN’S MAGAZINE

By

The Siouxland Women’s Magazine is a monthly publication that features local human-interest articles and stories featuring beauty, family and fashion. The September 2023 issue features an interview with local Avon artist, Johnny Swatek. He is the September issue’s featured artist. The interview includes twelve questions ranging from creative influences and painting habits to famous people he would like to have dinner with and things on his bucket list. The article also displays several beautiful paintings created by Johnny. One of the most interesting questions asked of Johnny was how he would want to be remembered. Swatek’s response was, “More than anything else, I’d like to be remembered as the painter who never stopped learning, who constantly strived to be better and who always gave my clients the memories they were hoping for”. Johnny has had his studio in Avon since 2019. Swatek grew up in Garden Grove, California in a cul-de-sac. When all the kids moved out of the cul-de-sac and there was no one left to play with, Johnny turned to drawing to keep himself busy. Drawing was also a way that he and his dad connected. When his dad was home, he would want to see what drawings Johnny was working on. Swatek focused on art in high school and then attended Santa Ana Junior College, where he majored in Art and Graphics. In 1992, Swatek moved to Wagner where his dad lived and eventually to Avon in 2016. Johnny has been showing professionally since 2004. He has been published/featured in the Siouxland Woman’s Magazine and the BonHomme/Yankton Rural Cooperative and has had several gallery showings. Johnny does commissioned paintings, matting and framing at his business, Johnny Swatek Fine Arts. He and his wife, Jennifer, plan to take part in the upcoming Tyndall craft fair and Cowboy Christmas in Platte. They bring all of Johnny’s gallery pieces as well as some of Jen’s abstract paintings. Congratulations Johnny on being chosen as the Siouxland Women’s Magazine September featured artist.
