JIM 'THE BARBER' DRESDEN RETIRES AFTER 40 YEARS
Jim “The Barber” Dresden has been a barber for well over 40 years, but has been a part of the Wagner Community barbering for the past 40 years. What he began in 1985 at The Wagner Barber Shop on Wagner’s Main Street came to end with the final haircut of Eugene Soukup at the barbershop on February 28th. When asked why he went into barbering, Jim said that after retiring from working for United Airlines as a welder in 1983 he knew he wanted to continue to work. After that career, Jim decided to buy a liquor store from a good friend of his. After operating the store for a while, Jim felt the need to pursue a different career. He decided that he wanted to become a barber and attended a six-month barbering school in Sioux City, IA. Before moving back home to the Wagner area (Jim was born and raised just over the border in Nebraska), Jim barbered in Modesto, Stockton and Riverbank California. Upon moving to Wagner, he immediately began looking for a barber shop. Jim found The Wagner Barber Shop that Red Nelson owned and operated and bought the shop from him. When Jim first started in Wagner, he offered both haircuts and shaves. Just as times have changed when it came to the prices of Jim’s haircuts $3.00 when he first started to $18.00 at retirement Jim know it was time for The Wagner Barbershop to change as well. With Jim retiring, a new barber, Quentin Bruguier III, will take over in Wagner. Jim knows that Quentin will do great and it makes Jim so happy to see a new generation of barbering begin in Wagner. Now that Jim is officially retired, he plans to take it easy by golfing and playing with old tractors. Thank you for all of your years of service to the Wagner community. Enjoy your retirement, Jim!
