ISABELLA BROUWER TO COMPETE AT STATE CROSS COUNTRY

Andes Central/Dakota Christian runner, Isabella Brouwer qualified for the State Cross Country Meet last Wednesday in Scotland. Isabella covered the 5K course in 19:49 to place second behind Jada Korner from Freeman Academy/Marion (19:41). Seventh grader Kalee Dykshorn just missed being a state qualifier by two places with a 22nd place finish (22:19) and Sonya Hansum earned a 29th place finish (24:07) for the Thunder.

Team scores for the Girls Region 3B Meet were: Burke - 25, Hanson - 27, Platte-Geddes - 32, Kimball/White Lake - 36, Menno - 42, Andes Central/Dakota Christian - 48, Freeman - 59, Freeman Academy/Marion - 60, Bon Homme - 91, and Avon - 109 points.

On the boy’s side Peter Backes finished in 24th with a time of 19:51 and Tony Hansum was 47th in 23:05. Platte-Geddes was the overall Boys Team champions led by Caden Tegothoff who ran a 17:20 5K.

Coach Larry Lucas was very proud of the AC/DC runners. “Our running times have continued to improve all year as well as from last year’s races. The competition in our area and at our meets has gotten stronger, which shows the growth of the cross country sport. If you see one of our runners, be sure to tell them they have done a great job!”

Isabella will compete in the State Meet in Huron this Saturday at 2:30 pm. It will be the last race of the day for the three divisions of A, B, and AA boy and girl runners.
