INTERACTIVE MOVIE NIGHT AT THE AVON PARK

The Avon Public Library ended their Summer Reading Program, Tails and Tales, with an interactive movie night on Monday, August 2. Participants met in the park and were given props and scripts to interact with the movie, Finding Nemo. About 65 children and adults were in attendance. Snacks and drinks were also given out. There was a lot of feedback on this being an enjoyable time, and Mayor Petrik inquired about doing this again with another movie in the winter possibly in the fire hall.

Results of the reading challenge were tallied. There were 20 participants entering the challenge with a total of 119 books checked out from the library and read. The challenge was broken into age groups and each group was assigned an underwater sea creature. Once a book was checked out, read, and returned, the participants could fill out his/her name on the appropriate sea creature and add it to the undersea mural in the library. Results of the contest are as follows:

Sharks (adults) 8 books --Mary Hurd as biggest reader

Sea Horses (young adult) 7 books--Charlii Simpson as biggest reader

Dolphin (Jr. adult) 39 books--Haley Brandt as the biggest reader

Angel Fish (children) 65 books--Corbin Tjeerdsma and the Schultz kids tying as the biggest readers

The board would again like to thank the businesses that supported our summer reading program by donating prizes, cash, etc. Special thanks goes to Ron’s Market, Deb and Nyla’s, Beck Seed, Powers Furniture, Walters Construction, Beck Seeds, Avon Community Bank, Beth Namminga, and Hilzendeger’s.

The underwater mural is quite impressive for a small town library. It will be up at least until school starts. Stop at the library during business hours M-W-F 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. to get a peek at it and see all the new things the Avon Public Library has to offer.
