Tuesday, October 23rd has finally arrived and now it is gone. That date has been circled on my calendar for a long time as the day I will have surgery for cataracts. I’ll let you know how it went next week. Should they even call it surgery? I will supposedly be conscious for the entire time, and the actual procedure should be over within less than ten minutes. Boy, I hope it is as easy and uneventful as they say it will be because the other eye is scheduled for October 30th.

My mailbox fills up all the time, sometimes with stuff I actually am interested in. Between Publisher’s Clearing House and me, we keep the USPS afloat. It kind of started last election time when I filled out a survey and mailed it back. I didn’t send a donation along or that would have really got their attention. As it is, I get requests to fill out a survey at least 3 or 4 times a week. How do you spell renascence as in renascence man? That is what I have become. The Republicans, Democrats, pro-lifers, pro-choice folks, Knights of Columbus, and the list goes on and on, all think I am a member in good standing. I’ve narrowed it down so that if they include a self stamped envelope, then I will fill it out, maybe.

Anyway, as luck would have it, I started needing this surgery on my eye at about the same time my foot started complaining about neuropathy. As long as we’re driving to Sioux Falls, we might as well combine the trips and save some gas. Then my dermatologist chips in with a reminder that it is about time to look for any trouble spots that may have started over the summer. It has become a challenge not unlike juggling chainsaws to keep all of these appointments straight. I wake up at 2 AM wondering who I have forgotten to see. And the surveys, CPH, and the Doctors keep sending me reminders. I may have to put up two mailboxes.

Scotland’s Haunted House attraction is drawing large crowds and getting good reviews. I toured the place a couple of years ago and it was really good and scary then. The 2 reporters from KELO did such a good job of promoting it the other morning that if they start having tours during the middle of the day, I might go again. I’m not big on being frightened.

Marianne is hosting the ladies who play Bridge on Monday at our house. I’m glad it happens only once a month or so. The house is looking pretty darn good by Friday, and it must stay that way until Monday. Marianne moves things and rearranges stuff until I never know where to look for what I need. Right now the toaster is in my office and I may have to look for my shoes outside on the deck. If it were up to me, there would be dishes in the sink and sticky spots on the floor. I like a house to have that “lived in” look.

There is a ton of work to do at the golf course. The flood spread debris everywhere, and closed bridges and cart paths too. I just have a feeling that we’ll get some very nice weather in November so I’m not ready to put the clubs away just yet.

Some beans and some corn went through the combines late last week. The bean dust coming out of the combine was a good sign that the moisture content is getting there. Cool and sunny weather for the up coming week. It should be pretty good weather for farming and for pheasant hunting.
