HONOMICHL'S DESIGN INC. CLOSES DOORS

By

In 1983 David Honomichl’s family started a small business of working in residential construction, which grew into working with commercial construction. After learning of Stedronsky’s Heating and cooling planned closing, Honomichl’s decided to try their hand at assisting our local community with their heating and cooling needs. In 1997-1998 they decided it was time to gear back a bit and sold their concrete equipment to focus on this new endeavor.

They bought the building from UBS lumber company to better suit their customers and their business needs. They added onto the south side of the building, which added retail value to the building and the business. It was from there that they started selling household appliances and floor coverings.

"Owning any business comes with ups and downs," commented Honomichl. Dave shared the best part of the business was the accomplishment they felt when they were designing and helping put up a building that would be around for a number of years. They had their hands in every part of the planning process for each and every project. The hardest part was when they became overwhelmed with projects and as a result were forced to turn down customers. "It was always a hard decision because someone would be upset, it was a juggling process, but we helped as many customers as we could," he added.

Every upcoming business owner has questions about starting their business. When asked what advice he would give to local business owners he said, “Start out small, make sure that you like what you are doing, don’t get into a heavy debt that you can’t get out of and take small steps to grow your business. You will be able to make improvements to your business when you are able to.”

The Honomichl's retirement plans currently include staying here in Wagner, taking some time to travel and enjoying some recreational activities like fishing and golfing and also not having to wake up so early to punch that time clock.
