The Kings and Queens that were crowned for 2020 are:

SUNSET WEST

Congratulations to King Wayne Powers and Queen Madonna Fitzgerald! Wayne Powers said he enjoys watching sports and having a beer. He loves all food but toward the top of his list is vanilla ice cream. He likes the color blue and watching funny shows. His best memory is getting out of school and celebrating. His favorite trips were when he went to North Dakota to see relatives. His proudest accomplishment in life is his time in the military and when he goes to heaven. His words of advice for life are to “Straighten Up”! Congratulations Wayne Powers on being crowned our 2020 King.

Our Queen for Sunset West is Madonna Fitzgerald. This queen has some of her best memories from growing up on the farm with her parents, brothers, and sisters. Her favorite color is Blue or a Lavender Purple. She enjoys word search books, reading, embroidery, sewing, and needlepoint. Her favorite food is mashed potatoes with homemade gravy. She enjoys watching funny shows. One of her favorite vacations was when she went to visit Brazil. She had a friend who was from there and went with her and got to go sightseeing. Her proudest accomplishment is fighting through her struggles with her legs. Her legs have given her trouble since she was young and she was determined to use them and to make them work for as many years as she could. She is still able to walk up and down the halls with her walker. Her words of advice for everyone are “Don’t give up hope.” Congratulations Madonna Fitzgerald!

CENTER VALLEY

Congratulations to King Tony Efta and Queen Olga Peterson!

Our 2020 Center Valley King is Tony Efta. Tom enjoys playing solitaire, attending Catholic mass, drinking coffee, and he used to do woodwork. In the past, he was in Vietnam in the Army. He also used to do electrician work. He likes suckers for a special treat and at one time was found having three suckers at once. He used to be part of the American Legion and one of his proudest accomplishments are his children. Congratulations Tony Efta!

Queen Olga Peterson was married June 24, 1945 and said it is one of her best memories. She enjoys watching Nascar and one of her best vacations was going to watch Nascar in Kansas City with her daughter and some others. She said they planned the trip without telling her about it because they knew if they did she wouldn’t go. She loves the color lavender and red and watching game shows. Her favorite food is spaghetti and she enjoys a good joke. Her favorite bible verse is also Psalm 23. One of her proudest accomplishments as working at the school cafeteria for 30+ years. If she could go back in time, she would travel to California. Her words of advice for everyone was “Don’t get into trouble.” Congratulations Center Valley Queen, Olga Peterson.

GOLDEN EAST

Congratulations to King Stan Swatek and Queen Velda Hawley.

Raising his kids and all the wonderful people he has met and experiences he has had through his music are some of his best memories. He was inducted into the SD Hall of Fame and raised seven children. One time his band played in Korea and had 15 shows in 15 days! His favorite movie is the Sound of Music and his favorite bible verse is Psalm 23: The Lord is my shepherd. Blue is his favorite color and he enjoys music and writing stories. His favorite food is Mexican. He loves happy people that enjoy life and he would love to travel back to Europe. One of his fun travels was to the Mexican Riviera on a cruise. If he could, he would like to travel back to the time with musicians such as Elvis and Ricky Nelson. His advice to others is “Whatever you decide to do, do as good as you can.” Congrats Stan Swatek!

Queen Velda Hawley was married to Glen and has two children, Vonna and Glenda. Her favorite color is red. She enjoys reading, playing bingo, watching tv, and attending Methodist church. She used to pass the time with card games such as Whist and Gold. Her favorite food is ice cream and her favorite vacation was to California. She enjoys country western music and in the past enjoyed many a dance. She used to run a Goldbond Gift Shop and worked retail at Montgomery Ward. She is part of the Century Club at 103 years old and can still be seen walking up and down the halls with her walker.
