The SoDak Stamm Chapter of the Germans from Russia Heritage Society is hosting a cemetery tour on Sunday afternoon, June 8. We will be exploring graveyards which are significant to the area and the Germans from Russia who settled north of Menno, in the early days.
We will begin with a short business meeting at the Unity Church Building on the Menno Pioneer Acres grounds north of Menno at 3 PM, June 8. At about 3:30 we will carpool and proceed north and work our way back towards Menno.
We plan to have a potluck picnic following the tour so crockpots can be plugged in and food left in the refrigerators at the big red barn kitchen at Heritage Acres.
At each of the cemeteries a different speaker will give the history of the congregation and cemetery.
A history will be given of several pioneer churches and graveyards which we will be unable to visit when we return to Menno. The sites we will be visiting in order are: Plum Creek Baptist, Wolf Creek German Congregational, Unity Lutheran, Johannesthal and Kassel.
