Every month a Avon High School student is recognized for their academic effort, good character, overall good behavior, and treating everybody with kindness. Students who win this award receive perks: one bag of beef sticks from Southside Meats; a Concession Stand Ticket from Scott and Theresa Swier for a bag of popcorn and a drink; 5 Chamber bucks from Avon Community Bank; a gift certificate for a burger, fries, and a drink from Tolsma’s Cove; $5 gift certificate from Deb and Nyla’s; 25% off of prom flowers from the Flower Shop; a free Pirate T-shirt from the Avon Booster Club; and the student of the month parking spot.

Taylor VanDuysen: daughter of Travis and Sara VanDuysen, Taylor VanDuysen was awarded November student of the month. Taylor is 16 years old and a junior at Avon High School. She has three siblings, Dodge, Caden and Sutton. She also owns four dogs, Strap, Harley, Dottie and Tank. VanDuysen’s favorite pastime is riding horses. Her favorite subject is senior math because it is a challenging class, but the best part of her day is creative english. What school has taught VanDuysen the most is how to be organized and not to procrastinate.

Justin Ferwerda: son of Randy and Angie Ferwerda, Justin Ferwerda was awarded December student of the month. Justin is 17 years old and a senior at Avon High School. Ferwerda has one sibling, Carmindy, and one golden retriever, Shelby. Ferwerda’s favorite pastime is farming. His favorite subject is shop because it is one class that he knows what is going on. What school has taught Ferwerda the most is that if no one parks in the Student of the Month parking spot, park there till you get it. The best part of his day is at 2:36, which is right after P.E, because he gets to go home.
