Autumn Schultz and the Avon High School Choir have been very busy the last few weeks. On February 7, 2024 the High School Choir attended the vocal solo/ ensemble contest at Vermillion High School. The choir performed a total of 17 songs and brought home eight I ratings, six II ratings, and three III ratings.
“I make it mandatory that every high school kid in my choir has to be in at least one event for contest. I do that because I think contest is a great tool for students to have to get in front of someone else to get constructive criticism for what they’ve prepared.” said Autumn Schultz. “It also teaches them how to behave in a different school and how to socialize with other students in an appropriate way. I put a lot of pressure on the students this year to come home with more ones than last year, and we did just that!”
On February 14, 2024 high school choir seniors serenaded people in Avon and in the surrounding towns as a fundraiser for their senior music trip. The seniors performed the song “Hooked on a Feeling” by Blue Swede.
Mrs. Schultz said, “Although my students had to sing the song 45 times, I stressed that this fundraiser isn’t just about raising money. It is so fun to shock people by showing up to their work and singing to them and even more entertaining to sing at other high schools for Avon student’s significant others. Seeing the smiles on everyone’s faces is thrilling! It is a rewarding day that I look forward to every year.”
Senior choir member Courtney Sees said, “It was a really long day, but it was worth it to see all the smiles!” Avon choir students will remain very busy the next few weeks as they prepare their songs for the spring concert and for the large group contest at Vermillion High School.
