HARRINGTON LEADS MOTIVATED CROSS COUNTRY SQUAD INTO NEW SEASON

Andes Central/Dakota Christian cross country team may be small in numbers this fall, but head coach Beth Harrington says the group’s experience and work ethic are its biggest assets. All of this year’s runners have varsity experience and bring a motivated attitude to each practice.

“Our main goals are to improve on last year’s times and stay consistent with strength training throughout the season,” Harrington said. “We’re down in numbers after three families with athletes moved out of the district, but the kids we have are committed.”

Returning standouts include Aspen Niewenhuis and Luke Dangel, with Dangel stepping into a quiet leadership role by leading through example. The squad also benefited from an endof- June Ft. Randall Running Camp organized by Mr. Lucas.

While Kimball/White Lake will be tough competition, Harrington is eager for the team’s “home” meets in Platte/Geddes and Wagner, which offer more opportunities for family and friends to cheer on the runners.

Experience and motivation define this year’s group, but Harrington hopes to sharpen the athletes’ mental approach before the first big meet. “Improving times from meet to meet is always motivating,” she said. “Keeping a positive mindset is a must.”
