Sharon Haar attended the Volunteer Recognition Ceremony for 2023-2024 on August, 9th. At the ceremony, Sharon was one of 21 volunteers recognized for their volunteer services. The volunteers were celebrated with a ceremony, yearly training, luncheon and finally award presentation.
During the past 18 years, Sharon has volunteered in some capacity for the Veterans Affairs (VA). Over those years, Sharon has accumulated 5,632.5 hours of volunteer work for the VA. Sharon first began volunteering when drivers were needed to take Veterans to Sioux Falls for health care services. Then once the VA clinic opened in Wagner, the organization needed a volunteer to be present almost all of the time almost in a receptionist type position. Sharon took the position and would still drive Veterans to Sioux Falls in emergency situations.
What Sharon enjoys most about volunteering for the VA is that she gets to get out of the house and be around people. Sharon expects to receive over 6,000 hours next year. Sharon feels that Veterans Affairs has done more for her than she has done for the organization by giving her a purpose.
Congratulations on your well-deserved award and thank you for all that you do for our local Veterans.
