GREER UNIT #11 AMERICAN LEGION AUXILIARY MEETING MINUTES APRIL 17

Greer Unit #11, American Legion Auxiliary held their monthly meeting on April 17 at the Post Home with 14 members present.

The meeting was called to order by President Alyssa Mathis. Chaplain Margie Stone read the opening prayer. The Pledge of Allegiance and American Legion Auxiliary Preamble were re-cited in unison.

The minutes of the previous meeting were read and approved. The Treasurer report was given and approved.

Motion was made by Barbara Wiechmann to pay bills presented, seconded by Barbara Kucera. Motion carried.

Membership chairman, Barbara Kucera reported we have 93 paid members. Goal is 82.

Correspondence was read from the District 8 President, Karen Richlieu.

CommunityServicechairman,MargieStone reported appropriate cards had been sent.

The booth at the Farm, Home and Garden Show was very successful. The door prize winners were: Cutting board – Martha Svatos; Easter towel – Simone Cournoyer; Free lunch ticket – Tammy Thornton; and Free lunch ticket – Quinn. We appreciate everyone who stopped at our booth, signed up for door prizes and purchased raffle tickets.

We appreciate everyone who attended the soup and sandwich luncheon on April 3. The winners of the raffle tickets were: Doug Vande Vegte - $100 Beef Bucks donated by First Dakota Bank; Levi Robertson – potted plant from Mensch’s Greenhouse; Connie Ishmael – gardening gloves from Bouza Construction; Miriam Leibel - $25 Sinclair Gift Card from Midtowne; John Sully – basket from Ft. Randall Credit Union; Georgia Andersh – basket from Vision Care Associates; Sandy Patterson – basket from Bomgaars; Kathy Leibel – Afghan donated by Karen Ishmael; and Nathan Kucera – Patriotic Wreath donated by Pam Bastemeyer.

Linda Youngbluth gave a report on the District 8 Spring meeting held on March 29 in Tabor. Three essays from our unit won on the District level and will now be submitted to the State level. Those winning were: Jayce Martin, Portlyn Jones and Hannah Holzbauer.

Barbara Kucera will represent District 8 for the Legionette of the Year at the State level.

Linda Youngbluth sent Easter cards to veterans and auxiliary members in nursing homes.

Thank you to Barb Slaba for the donation of totes, water pitchers and coffee carafes.

We received 183 posters and colored pictures for the poppy contest. Thank you to all students that did a poster on colored picture and to the teachers for helping the students. The following were winners in the pre-k group: 1st – Vinny Sully; 2nd – Kensley Deurmier; and 3rd – Rylee De Bey. The prize amount for pre-k was: 1st - $7.00, 2nd - $5,00 and 3rd - $3.00. First grade group: 1st – Jeanetta Perkins; 2nd – Kolston Bartunek and 3rd – Sahveya Kuhlman. Colored pictures were done by the pre-k and first grade. Posters were done by second and third grades. Second grade winners are: 1st – Shannaia Pena; 2nd – Alana Picotte; and 3rd – Brynlee Martin. Third grade winners: 1st – Samira Powers; 2nd – Tamarie Bruguier and 3rd – Calli Cuka. The prize amount for the first, second and third grades was: 1st - $10.00; 2nd - $7.00 and 3rd - $5.00.

Dolores Kotab won the basket and donated it back to the Children and Youth Fund.

There being no further business to come before the meeting. Chaplain Margie Stone read the Prayer for Peace and President Alyssa Mathis adjourned the meeting.
