GREER UNIT #11 AMERICAN LEGION AUXILIARY MEETING MINUTES

Greer Unit #11 American Legion Auxiliary held their monthly meeting on January 16, 2025 at the Post Home with 13 members present. The meeting was called to order by President Alyssa Mathis. Chaplain Margie Stone read the opening prayer. The Pledge of Allegiance and American Legion Auxiliary Preamble were recited in unison. Minutes of the last meeting were read and approved. The treasurer’s report was given and approved. Motion was made by Juanita Stone to pay the bill for continuous membership pins and Poppy counter posters. Motion carried.Motion was made by Barb Wiechmann to pay the bill for the storage shelves that were purchased to help get either the basement or the upstairs room better organized. Membership chairman, Barbara Kucera, reported that we have 85 paid members; our annual goal was 82 members. Correspondences were read from District President Karen Richlieu and SD Department Secretary Kayla Kennedy. Community Service chairman, Margie Stone, reported appropriate sympathy and get well cards had been sent. Report of Christmas cards sent to local deployed active-duty service members and recently enlisted military were given. The scholarship committee reported that they have begun communicating about the guidelines they are looking to implement for an annual scholarship given from the Wagner American Legion Auxiliary. Edited chapter constitution and by-laws were handed out at the meeting and was considered to be a “reading”. At the February 20th meeting we will discuss and vote on the suggested changes. Dolores Kotab reported on the upcoming Poppy Days. Margie Stone and Dolores Kotab are the co-chairmen for the annual Soup and Sandwich luncheon fundraiser. Motion was made by Kathy Geiman and Shelby Mach for the date of luncheon to be April 3, 2025. Motion carried. The annual event will also coincide with the annual bake sale as well. Auxiliary members are asked to bring desserts for the luncheon and items for the bake sale. The annual American Essay and Poem Contests will be circulated to the Wagner Community School and Boys and Girls Club and will be due back to the Americanism chairman, Alyssa Mathis, by February 15th so that auxiliary members can vote on winners at the February meeting. The Midwinter Conference will be held on February 14th through the 16th in Oacoma. The District 8 Spring meeting will be on March 29, 2025 in Tabor with times to be determined. Pam Bastemeyer won the basket and donated it back to the Children and Youth Fund. As there was no further business to come before the meeting, Chaplain Margie Stone read the Prayer for Peace and President Alyssa Mathis adjourned the meeting.
