Greer Unit #11 American Legion Aux.
Greer Unit #11 American Legion Auxiliary met on February 16, 2023 at the Post home with 17 members present.
The meeting was called to order by Vice President Alyssa Mathis. Chaplin Margie Stone read the opening prayer. The Pledge of Alliance and Auxiliary Preamble were recited in unison.
Minutes of the previous meeting were approved as read.
The treasurer's report was given and approved.
Membership chairman, Barbara Kucera reported that we have 72 paid members. Goal is 77.
Correspondence was read from the District President Karen Richelieu.
Community service chairman, Margie Stone reported appropriate cards had been sent.
Barbara Kucera gave a report from the mid-winter conference held on February 10-12, 2023 in Huron.
Dolores Kotab gave poppy report and National Poppy Day is May 26, 2023.
Margie Stone made motion to pay for the registration for Girl's State representative. Motion seconded carried.
The District 8 Spring meeting will be held in Springfield on April 1, 2023.
Winners were selected for the 4th grade essays and poems. Essays were written 'What does Patriotism mean to you?' - 1st place Dawson Peters; 2nd place Ryder Insko and 3rd place Christopher French. Theme for poems was 'Thanking Our Veterans for Our Freedom' - 1st place Catherine Payer, 2nd place Jaylee Kafka and 3rd place Nariah Kuhlman. Motion was made by Juanita Stone for the money amounts for the winners. Motion seconded and carried.
Motion was made by Juanita Stone to nominate Jeanette Fuchs as member of the year. Motion seconded and carried.
Auxiliary will be serving the meal for the March meeting. Auxiliary members will furnish salads.
The soup and sandwich luncheon will be held on March 30, 2023. Will be serving two soups, sandwiches and desserts. There will also be a bake sale. Raffle tickets were handed out to members to sell. Following will be chairman of the different areas: Soups - Margie Stone; Desserts - Barbara Wiechman and Bake Sale - Barbara Kucera.
Margie Stone won the basket and donated it back to the children and youth fund.
As there was no further business to come before the meeting, Chaplin Margie Stone read the prayer for peace and Vice President Alyssa Mathis adjourned the meeting.
