Greer Post #11 American Legion Minutes

American Legion Greer Post #11 held its monthly meeting on October 17, 2024. Commander Clayton Rados thanked the cooks for the delicious meal. Commander Rados called for a round of thanks for the cooks for this evening’s meal. Chaplain Don Kotab gave the invocation which was followed by the Pledge of Allegiance. The Preamble to the Constitution of the American Legion was recited by all members. Commander Rados then called the meeting to order.

Minutes – Assistant Adjutant Mark Wiechmann read the minutes of our last meeting. Minutes were approved as read.

Treasurer’s Report – The treasurer’s report was handed out by Treasurer Danie Gruenewald and was approved as presented.

Americanism – Americanism Officer Don Kotab reported that the first weekend in June will be the date for Boys State. Veterans Day Program is being planned for Monday, November 11th with Lori Kokes making arrangements at the Wagner School.

Service Officer – Service Officer Merle Stone gave his report.

Baseball – The baseball season is ended.

Legion Riders – The riding season has ended.

Bingo – Bingo will start again in November with the first one being on November 3rd. Workers will be needed as the season progresses.

Veterans Service Officer – Veterans Service Officer Jerry Seiner spoke in reference to the VA’s screening process for veterans exposed to toxic exposure. A new VA emergency care system is being introduced. Calling 833-983-0492 will connect you with an emergency nurse for evaluation. VA is bringing back Travel Claims Kiosks for veterans to apply for reimbursement for claims for travel. The SFVA did not have a timeline for installation at their facility. Travel pay is authorized for those enrolled in VA health care and who have a service connected disability of 30% or more or are being seen for any service connected disability.

Old Business – Amanda Bechen is still working on reinstatement of our non-profit status.

New Business – Wagner will host the fall District 8 meeting here at the Post on Sunday October 27th. There will be a luncheon at 11:45 with the meeting to follow at 1:00 p.m. The Auxiliary will bring salads. The Post is hosting the Fellowship Feast at the United Methodist Church on October 24th. It was unanimously agreed upon to allow the VFW to use the Post Legion Hall for their November 11th Veterans Day banquet. We received a letter from Denise Weber concerning our tax-exempt status and will be taken care of. The Wagner Pool Fund Raising committee will use the Post for future meetings.

The small freezer is failing and we need to replace it with another small deep freezer or combination unit. Pricing will be looked into.

Our monthly drawing winner was Don Kotab who donated his winnings back to the Post. Chaplain Don Kotab gave the final prayer and we closed in due form.
